Fingal Bay Spit Walk

⚠️ Important Safety Warning: The Fingal Bay Spit crossing can be extremely dangerous. This is not a walk to attempt without local expert knowledge — conditions change rapidly and the risks are serious. Seek local advice before attempting this crossing. The Fingal Bay Spit is a narrow tidal sandbar that connects Fingal Bay to Shark Island, approximately 200 m offshore. At low tide, the spit emerges from the water and can be walked in around 5 minutes — shallow warm water on both sides, ankle-to-knee deep depending on the tide stage. It is one of the most photographed spots in Port Stephens. The crossing is only safe within approximately 1–2 hours either side of low tide.
